Social Action

Special offerings are taken monthly for local and national social action efforts. These campaigns often target ELCA or Lutheran affiliated agencies and programs.

Our mission comes alive through our service projects for the people and organizations in need within our communities. Here are some of our more recent projects undertaken under the direction of our Social Action Committee.

American Red Cross Blood Drives

St. Mark opens its doors several times during the year to host the American Red Cross Blood Drives. We have a great group of volunteers that give up their day to make these Drives a success. 

Crop Walk

Our members have actively participated in this annual interdenominational charity walk for hunger assistance.  Many St. Mark members participate in the walk, raise funds and staff the registration table and a water station.

Good Neighbors

St. Mark members donate their time and materials to the Tallmadge unit of the Good Neighbors community outreach program. Food packages and gifts are provided to needy area families in an annual holiday food drive and Christmas present drive.

Haven of Rest Meals

Meals at the Haven of Rest mission are served by various St. Mark members on the fourth Sunday of each month. Other members bake and donate cupcakes for the meal's dessert.

Mobile Meals of Summit County

You will see several St, Mark members driving around town delivering meals for Mobile Meals of Summit County.

Ronald McDonald House

St. Mark donates typical household items for the Akron facility at Children's Hospital. These donations help the facility defray operating costs. In the past, we have taken a group of our young members to the Home for a tour and to help with some chores.

St. Bernard Lunch Program

Several St. Mark members join with members from other Tallmadge churches to prepare two hundred lunches on the second Monday of each month at St. Mark. They transport them to St. Bernard’s lunch program. Each church shares in the financial responsibility. 

St. Luke Home for the Aged

St. Mark is a member of the St. Luke Foundation. We reach out to the elderly in this facility through our annual foundation contribution and a monthly special offering.
